I've been listening to a lot of folk music lately - Gordon Lightfoot, Peter Paul & Mary, and of course, Stan Rogers.
The first time I remember listening to Stan Rogers was at Thanksgiving dinner at my friend's house when I was 16. Her parents had Northwest Passage on, and we thought the acapella harmonizing was nothing less than hilarious. Nearly 10 years later, I took a natural history class in university and our professor was a big Stan Rogers fan - so much so that one of our final exam questions included: "Provide the title of a Stan Rogers song and explain the ecological significance of its lyrics." I believe he had been referring to Tiny Fish For Japan.
In any case, I have been listening to a lot of Stan Rogers lately. Northwest Passage is now a favourite, along with the one below. If you like folk or maritime music, give it a listen, it's a great song with a great story attached to it.
